One of many "camps" created during the Great Depression, the US Government under the Army Corps of Engineers created "Civilian Conservation Corps" to put unemployed men to work building fire protection roads, bridges, logging and many other interior engineering projects.  Belknap was known for having a good baseball team as well.

Camp Belknap was scheduled to take on the 1935 Willamette League champion Berrypickers, but a forest fire derailed the game.
