The Big Sky Avalanche played a one-and-done season in 2016 creating a void that was quickly filled by the creation of the Vigilantes for the 2017 season.

When the Vigilantes ended with two forfeits at the end of 2018, the next team up for the Helena-area would be the Guardians for the 2019 season.
