Initally formed in the 1890's as a traditional "football" (soccer) or association club, in 1900 the "Astoria Football & Athletic Club" liqidated assets.  As popularity gained with the prestige of the Multnomah Club of Portland, Astoria wanted their piece too, and began playing as the "Commercial Club" in 1902. and eventually changed to the Astoria Athletic Club playing into the 1920's sparking one of the most talked about rivalries in the Portland area between Astoria and the Winged M's.

George Barker accounted for 3 touchdowns (4pts) and 6 goal kicks (2pts) for 24 of the teams' 41 points scored against Fort Stevens in 1903.  He also punted pinning the Soldiers deep most of the game.  The following game with the "All Stars", old has-beens, was called off on Saturday Nov 21, 1903 due to "unforseen conditions" by the All Stars Management.

Multnomah claims to have sent its reserves to play Astoria in the Dec 13, 1903 matchup, however at least four playing that day were regular starters of the "big" team.  The MAAC would not agree to a Portland-area playoff game leaving Astoria standing undefeated and the title of Northwest Champ in dispute.

Devork broke a leg in the first half of the 1906 game against the University of Oregon and was replaced by Cooper.  White Bear (E) handled punting duties.

Urell scored 3 TDs against St. Johns in a 27-0 rout in October of 1921.  Rudy Planting was lost to a broken arm in practice.

Coach Malarkey and Astoria claimed the 1921 Independent Championship of Oregon on the grounds Multnomah would not play.

On Dec 8, 1922 a fire broke out in Astoria destroying 30 city blocks and rendering 2,500 people homeless in what was considered the worst fire in Oregon history.  The Dec 10 game with Woodstock was pushed back with the proceeds of the next game to be donated to help the residents rebuild.
