Myron Kilgore scored four TDs' in the win over White Cap to open the
season, the only win for Vernon.
In 1912 the team tried to get "bigger" leaving the A-W League and going
into the Independents of 140-pounders, but struggled to get games.
Better known as a baseball club, the football endeavor fizzled and gave
way to the grammar-school team of 1913 Section II,in the lightweight
division.
Myron Kilgore would go on to be known as "Tex Vernon" in the
featherweight boxing circles from 1913-1921 before running afoul of the
government involving whiskey running and other "charges". He was
later elected President of the Coos Bay Izaak Walton League before
passing away in 1957.
"Grandpa" Mills entered his ninth-consecutive season with the team.
An all-star QB in 1923, many believed he was in his 50's when the 1924
season kicked off due to his premature gray hair. He was only 24.
