The Walla Walla Stars were born during the 2004 Inland Northwest Football League days and immediately established themselves as one of the top teams in Eastern Washington.  Playing in the league championship game every year of their existence, fourth time was finally the charm as the Stars defeated their cross-river rival Tri City Knights for the Evergreen Football League title.

Now rebranded as the Blue Mountain Stars in a move to appeal to more of the region and playing out of Burbank, Washington, the Stars won back-to-back EFL titles in 2007 and 2008,

Following the 2007 undefeated EFL season, Blue Mountain hosted the South Sound Shockers, Pacific Northwest Conference champions from Western Washington, in the GNFA Regional Championship game.  In a battle of undefeated spring league titans, the Stars dominated 31-10 on the arm of quarterback Brett Jay.  Later in the year, the Stars banner would fly again in what was dubbed a Minor League Football Assocation playoff game, but with a much different make up players.  Quarterback Brett Jay and many other key players would not suit up for the September matchup with summertime Northwest League champion King County Jaguars.  Pulling in a few replacement players from the east side of the state, the 89-day layoff since the Shocker game was too much for the makeshift team as they blemished their undefeated record, losing in Kent, Washington 29-0.

The Stars returned as EFL champions again in 2008 to vie for the GNFA Regional Championship, only to wilt under the heat of a rolling Oregon Monarch team riding an 8-game winning streak.  Oregon dethroned Blue Mountain 48-28 with a rookie quarterback by the name of Russell Schneider.  Schneider woud rewrite the Greater Northwest passing records over the course of his career winning multiple player of the year honors.

After a solid five year run together, an exodus of key personnel prior to the 2009 season, including much of the offensive line to rival Yakima, created a less than expected Blue Mountain squad.  Struggling to a 3-3 season including an embarrassing forfeiture by Stars management to the North Sound Sting after players had made the 5-hour trek to play the game, the franchise ground to a halt.  Two splinter groups were looking to build teams in Hermiston, Oregon with the Coyotes and Hurricanes entering the Oregon Football League and the Washington Football League, previously the Evergreen League.  The Hurricanes, with former Stars coach Jeff Barnes, would be a de facto rebrand of the Stars and return to it's championship form.  The Coyotes failed to take off and some of the group rejoined the Hurricanes.  Another chaotic mutiny occured in 2010 that created the Umatilla Panthers, a second-attempt at the Coyote franchise.

Star running back Brandon Tate, holder of multiple Evergreen/Washington League rushing records, eventually started the Tri City Rage and at the same time turned his sights indoors operating the Tri City Rush out of Kennewick, Washington.  Tate held a Greater Northwest record for most 100-yard rushing games in a season.
