Base football was a common activity on US military bases prior to and during World War I as many officers felt football was a great training tool for maintaing physical fitness and team tactical training.  First noted in 1908 in a battle with the collegians from Washington State College, the Navy and Marines played various college, military and club teams through 1920 under the Bremerton Navy, Bremerton Marines, or combined according to newspaper articles of the day.

The 1911 squad was specifically heralded as extremely fast, selected from marines and sailors from the teams of the USS Charleston, USS Chattanooga, USS Galveston, USS Denver and USS Cleveland and were basically the same players that won the 1910 Washington State Amateur Championship.

In 1913 the Eugene Guard reported that the Bremerton team was another way of saying the "Seattle Athletic Club" as many of the SAC players reported for duty as coastal gunners in reserve duty.

The 1918 team provided cannon foder for the Mare Island Marines a week after the Marines took on the Camp Lewis Soldiers in a rematch of the Jan 1, 1918 Rose Bowl.  Mare defeated Camp Lewis November 28th and was initially slated to play Bremerton two days later on the 30th, but the game was postponed and Mare decimated Bremerton 89-0 on December 6th before heading back to California.  The following week, the Bremerton Marines made a better showing in a Seattle battle with Camp Lewis but fell 13-0.

The 1920 team would play as the Bremerton Navy Hospital as a collection of base "all-stars" from the intra-military league.
