Created by former Eugene Blast player Devon Sisk, the Dragons were down, up and down again in its seemingly brief five year existence.

In 2003 the Eugene "Red Dragons" as they were known, opened their Oregon Football League debut in horrible fashion.  Outscored 473-14 in their eight losses, not much was expected for the new guys on the block, especially after former nine-man league entrant Northwest Timberwolves dropped a 96-6 blasting on the Dragons immediately after the Columbia River Coyotes rocked Eugene 73-8 for their first win in franchise history.  The Coyotes would win only two more games and set a regional record with 40-consecutive losses through 2008.

2004 proved to be one of the legendary turnarounds in OFL history as the Dragons (dropping the Red), in large part due to the Dragons successfully recruiting away nearly all of the Timberwolves talent and adding a few other pieces.  Eugene recorded five shut outs to start the season and ran away with the 2004 OFL title outscoring opponents 401-87 and finishing 9-1, the only stumble coming in the only meeting with the Rogue Warriors in week six.

The 2005 season saw the Dragons bounced from the playoffs by the Rogue Warriors, a team that handed the Dragons 3 of their 4 losses during the '04 and '05 seasons.,

In 2006 Devon Sisk pulled his team from the OFL and headed for the Pacific Northwest Football Conference after the Oregon League allowed the admittance of another team in the Eugene area, in what he saw as direct competition for his players.  A bit of irony considering the Dragons recruiting Timberwolves players.  The team in question was former Nine-Man League member Oregon Outlaws, and just up the road, the Salem Monarchs debuted.  Sisk was right to be concerned as many of the former Dragons/former Timberwolves joined the Outlaws and promptly went undefeated and Oregon League Champions for 2005.

The move for the Dragons to the PNFC as the only Oregon team sent the team back the way it came with the debut being a home loss to the South Sound Shockers 70-0.  After an 0-5 season, the team changed names to the Lane County Dragons.

The Dragons would go winless in two seasons of PNFC play before shutting down operations following a record-setting 105-0 pasting in Olympia, Washington at the hands of the Shockers to end the 2007 season with very few healthy players available.  Assistant coach Eric Murray was even forced to suit up in the game that featured a running clock from the second quarter on.

Murray would try to start a new team in 2008 called the Cottage Grove Gryphons.
